The DCMW encompasses Minnesota and portions of Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. |
Dennis Ryan '81, this region's Distric Enrollment Director, was honored in November by the admissions office at the college. He was awarded with the annual "District Enrollment Director of the Year" honor, a special recognition given at the annual club dinner in Hanover.
"Dennis won't admit it, but it is truly a wonderful recognition by the college for his efforts in the admissions process," said Doug Fulton, Club President. "He has done a terrific job!"
As DED Dennis serves as liaison with the admissions office for recruiting students in Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota. He hosts two annual receptions for prospective and new students, coordinates over 100 local interviews a year and serves as a local contact for Dartmouth's student liaison officers. He has help of course, through a large alumni volunteer group which he helps recruit and manage.
The Dartmouth Club of the Midwest also continues its track record of success. At the Club Officers' Weekend last fall, DCMW was given an award for its Sustained Excellence as a large club.
Last year Dartmouth broke the 10,000 mark in applications for the first time. This year applications total over 11,250!! Obviously, Dartmouth is a 'hot' school. Unfortunately, this means many more candidates will not be accepted since the entering class will remain at 1,050.
Once again there were about 125 applicants from Minnesota. With the exception of some candidates in remote locations, all of them have been interviewed by members of out Club or by a senior interviewer in Hanover. Three were admitted Early Decision and we expect another 20 will be admitted when regular admissions decisions are mailed in early April. The Club will sponsor a reception for the accepted candidates and their parents in mid-April. It is the active interest of alumni that keeps our applicant pool strong year after year. Thanks to everyone who helped out again this year!

Dear Parents:
On a recent trip to Hanover while having dinner with my daughter, Elizabeth '97, and her friends, I asked what weere the highlights of Dartmouth and Hanover that parents definitely shouldn't miss. I though it would be fun to share them with you:
In addition, they wanted me to mention that favorite "Care Package" treats include Rice Krispie treats, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, clippings from the hometwon newspaper, and copies of Time, Newsweek, Cosmo, and Sports Illustrated.
A great place to order a birthday cake for your child is Lou's. Ask for Hanover Fudge, Carrot, or German Chocolate.
The annual dinner of the DCMW is soon upon us. We would love to have a couple of tables of all parents. This is not just an alumni event but an excellent opportunity to meet other parents in the area, learn more about Dartmouth, and enjoy the evening. Look for details in this newsletter. Send in your reservation, and I will make sure that we sit together. See you at the dinner.
