A Tribute to Native Americans choregraphed by Moses Pendleton '71:

This event was suggested by Joan Picken. "The Legends" is a new, modern, evening-long music-and-dance tribute to Native American culture presented by Ballet Arizona. Written by Michael Uthoff, it is choreographed by Uthoff, artistic director, and Moses Pendleton, founder of Pilobus and Momix,, with a score written and performed by Native American Flutist, R. Carlos Nakai.

It is the first time Pendleton, born and raised on a dairy farm in northern Vermont, and Nakai, a Navajo-Ute native of Flagstaff and a Tucson resident, have collaborated with Ballet Arizona.

Pendleton founded Pilobolus Dance Theater in 1971, the year he graduated from Dartmouth College. It has won worldwide acclaim for its blend of acrobatics and imagination.

Nakai was a 1994 Grammy Award finalist for his Ancestral Voices album.

The performance will be held at the Pima Community College Center for the Arts, West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road. The tickets cost $36 for the center downstairs, $26 for the sides downstairs and the center of the balcony, and $16 for the sides of the balcony. The Dartmouth Club of Tucson can obtain a 15% discount if we buy ten or more tickets. We will buy a block of $26 tickets when you send us your check made payable to the Dartmouth Club of Tucson. Please send us your check no later than March 31st. If you decide you want to attend after March 31st, you can always purchase individual tickets from Ballet Arizona.
