A Revolutionary Project: Cuba from Walker Evans to Now

Cuba’s attempt to forge an independent state has been a project under development for more than 100 years and a source of fascination for nations, intellectuals, and artists alike.

A Revolutionary Project: Cuba from Walker to Evans to Now looks at three critical periods in the nation’s history as witnessed by photographers before, during, and after the country’s 1959 Revolution. The exhibition juxtaposes Walker Evans’s 1933 images from the end of Machado dictatorship with views by contemporary foreign photographers ***Virginia Beahan***, Alex Harris, and Alexey Titarenko, who have explored Cuba since the withdrawal of Soviet support in the 1990s.

A third section bridging these two eras presents pictures by Cuban photographers who participated in the 1959 Revolution, including Alberto Korda, Perfecto Romero, and Osvaldo Salas.

10:30AM: Embark on our guided adventure in comfort (All transportation for the day provided by Grapeline Shuttle)

11:00AM: Begin the day with a private tour and tasting at the Baily Wine Production Facility, hosted by Winemaker/Owner Phil Baily ‘62

12:30-2:00PM: Enjoy a scrumptious lunch at Carol’s Restaurant

2:00PM: Continue on our tasting adventure at Hart Winery (Temecula’s oldest winery in terms of continuous ownership, 30 years).

3:00PM: Monte de Oro Winery (one of Temecula’s newest wineries and host of the Temecula Wine and Culinary Showcase)

The Dartmouth Big Green Soccer Team has advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 2-1 win over #9 Notre Dame in OT. They will be playing UCLA at Drake Stadium on the UCLA Campus. Join Los Angeles area alumni in supporting the Big Green Men’s Soccer Team versus #8 ranked UCLA. The Big Green is on a 5 game winning streak and has received great play throughout.

We will gather before the game at Barney’s Beanery to support the team and Big Green Soccer. Harry Sheehy, our new Athletic Director, will be stopping by to meet and greet alumni.
