To Be Rescheduled, Westwood Marquis
Our speaker on a date to be rescheduled will be the long-time head of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA): the venerable Jack Valenti. Mr. Valenti represents the interests of the entertainment industry before government, business bodies, and the world. He developed the now ubiquitous movie rating system, and is currently at the helm of a sometimes fractious coalition of broadcasters, cable companies, and studios seeking to develop a MPAA-like guide for TV. As the business representative of the multi-billion dollar movie industry, Mr. Valenti is of course concerned with much more than ratings. As just one example, as this is being written, Mr. Valenti is addressing international piracy, trade, and copyright issues that cost the motion picture industry billions in lost income. For insights into the entertainment industry from someone at its focal point, you won't miss our feature attraction coming to a Breakfast near you this September.
October 22, Sotheby's Beverly Hills
Our October Breakfast will present a rare behind-the-scenes look at the international art auction world. Sotheby's will host our Breakfast at its auction house in Beverly Hills. We will have the opportunity to view items scheduled for auction in November, including jewelry and fine wines. Richard Wolf, the Managing Director of Sotheby's West Coast operations, will share his perspectives on the auction items and on the business of the art world. Trained as a decorative arts appraiser and auctioneer, Mr. Wolf has assisted with the appraisal and dispositions of many large estates, including those of Greta Garbo, Perry Ellis, Henry Ford II, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dorothy Lamour. Mr. Wolf was formerly the director of Sotheby's Appraisal Company and Trust and Estate Services Division, and had lectured and published frequently regarding the art market and tax implications of personal property. Sotheby's is defraying the cost of our October 22nd Breakfast, leaving you extra cash to bid with at upcoming auctions.
