News from 1999

A couple of these pictures are from the jazz group I sing with called By Popular Demand. We perform all over the NYC area. On October 30th our CD comes back from production, its about 13 or 14 great Jazz standards including Route 66 and Tuxedo Junction. If anyone is interested in a copy, give me a shout. Its going to be really good, we spent over 1 month in the studio putting it together and then threw in some live tracks.

The other picture or two was from the Total Eclipse that took place in Austria/Germany this summer on August 11th. Carl Seglem '92 and I went for a week. I got my fill of Weinerschnitzel which is very good for about 10 minutes and then gets old. Innsbruck was beautiful, easily my favorite place on the trip.

Another Dartmouth-y event was Jeff Cobb '92 and Ellen Reed's '92 wedding in Cleveland over Labor Day weekend. Amongst the attendees were about 40-50 people from the Dartmouth Marching Band who serenaded the married couple with a band favorite "Hey Baby". Spontaneous Combustion was also present and gave several command performances to standing room only audiences (very small rooms). Spoco also sang the first dance, "If I May". I'm happy to report that Lew Cirne, Ted Wallace, Dave Kaiser, Jeff Bird ('92) and Norm Roye are all doing well.

I have just started Med School in Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. I know of 3 other Dartmouth Alums here in various years of Medical School, but none are '93's. I should also note that Sam Kim, my roommate in Boston for the last three years is in the process of applying to medical school now so the class of '93 will have MD's coming out of the system for many years to come.

I recently graduated from medical school in California and I have started my surgical residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. All of the requisite complaints about residency apply to me; I have nothing new to add... Would enjoy more sleep. On the torturous interview trail, I ran into Ben Hornik who is doing plastics at the Univ. of Chicago. Regretfully, I left Ben Paik and Will Wynperle behind in sunny CA, but they are both pretty busy. Will is adjusting to his yuppie existence, with his fiancee newly moved in and turning his world upside down. Ben too is undergoing a transformation, but of the career variety. It seems the intellectualism of a phD was no match for the lure of the almighty dollar. I guess he's willing to give up his usual 30-plus ski days a year for power lunches and snazzy suits.

Around the time of my departure from LA, TJ and Jen Whalen were also heading back East. Summer in Massachusetts, I think, is the current plan. However, Ted Ames, a newly graduated counselor of law has recently moved to LA to to work in some fancy entertainment firm. He is also determined to continue his blossoming music career.

And last but not least, there is our very own U.S. Ranger, Marine, all-around badd-ass Dann Angeloff. At last report, Dann was busy jumping out of helicopters and leading his men to certain... victory? Very admirable for a guy who is also trying to get his b-school applications finished.

Back in the New York area, Marc and Kira Steifman continue to keep their noses to the proverbial grindstone while getting some time to play with their beagle Willy. B McConnaughey and his wife Martha are also doing well in their ridiculously nice house in CT. I also manage to see Rob Gutman whenever he's back from his exotic travels.

A heartfelt congratulations to Lou Kozloff who, in the words of the day, " dropped rock " recently to a woman from law school. They both work in DC and I think the date is sometime in 2000. Congrats also go to Taylor Sandison, a second year med student at UW, who is getting married this August on an island near Seattle.

Lastly, I'd like to welcome back Kathie Hahn to this side of the world. We've missed you.

Hello to everyone that I haven't spoken to in a while. Life here isn't bad, but I could always swing a trip to the city to meet up with old friends.

Well, I am proud to announce that myself, Hillary Brooke, Lex Miron, Jeff Allen, Frank Pelzer, Mary Beth Keiller, Kamran Pasha are all D'93s that are now officially second years at Tuck. It has been a long year and I think we are all happy it is behind us! I can't remember where everyone is going - but I am going to NYC for the summer, doing the consulting thing and I hope to see some familiar faces!

I finally looked at our homepage again. As I read Heidi Daileader's update, I am working at a "new" law firm (although not so new). I only lasted at Shearman & Sterling for about 10 months and realized that it was not for me. I am now at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in the trusts and estates group. Kara MacKenzie does work here too, but she is in the Labor department. I am really happy here (yes, a happy lawyer).

I just came back from a restful week in the Berkshires with Kira (Thomas) Steifman (we left our husbands at home) Kira is now at the law firm of Skadden, Arps (and has been working like a dog) and it was her very first vacation, so I was very honored that she chose to spend it with me. We had a great time. Kira proved to be excellent at yoga. I ran into Tammy Faggell a while ago who was just about to get married in what sounded like a beautiful wedding out in Napa. I still see Carrie Cantor and Daphne Howard from time to time too and both are doing well. lly, we had a great time at Heidi Smith's June wedding. I was sad to miss the reunion, but our schedules did not permit us to do both.

I am working in DC in a law firm specializing in telecom. Although I received my law degree at Univ. Colorado last May I decided not to practice law and am actually working as a researcher/analyst at the firm's in-house consulting group. We mostly do work for the regional bells and I really enjoy it.
