Robert R. Kugler Elected Officer
Of American Cancer Society National Board of Directors
Attorney Robert R. Kugler of Archer & Greiner P.C. in Haddonfield, N.J., has been elected by the National Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society (ACS) to serve as Secretary of the nation’s largest volunteer health organization.
In addition, Mr. Kugler has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the Society’s advocacy affiliate. ACS CAN advances the mission to end cancer by influencing public policy, largely through legislation at both the federal and state levels.
“Rob’s leadership at the national level speaks to his extraordinary commitment to fighting cancer and alleviating the suffering caused by this dreadful disease,” said James H. Carll, Chairman of Archer & Greiner and a longtime colleague of Mr. Kugler. “Most of all, Rob’s dedication reflects his compassion for those in need.”
The American Cancer Society, with three million volunteers worldwide, supports cancer research, public education, programs and services. Mr. Kugler has been a member of the ACS National Board of Directors since 2005 and Chairman of the Board’s Governance Committee since 2009. The Board, made up of both medical professionals and laypersons, sets policy, establishes long-term goals and monitors general operations throughout the country. As Secretary, Mr. Kugler’s additional responsibilities include supervising keeping minutes of meetings of the Board, standing committees and the annual national meeting of volunteers, as well as providing notice of meetings as set forth by ACS bylaws.
As Chairman of ACS CAN, Mr. Kugler will lead an organization that supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. ACS CAN encourages elected officials and candidates to make preventing and curing cancer a top national priority. For example, ACS CAN has been at the forefront of successful efforts to implement anti-smoking legislation that has led to healthier air in buildings and other facilities throughout the nation.
Mr. Kugler’s involvement with the American Cancer Society began nearly 40 years ago when he served as a “Crusade Captain” in his hometown of Haddonfield, going door-to-door to raise money and awareness for cancer research and treatment. Since then, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the ACS New Jersey Division from 1973 to 1998, including as Chair from 1985 to 1987, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the ACS Eastern Division from 1998 to present, including as President from 2000 to 2002. He has been an advocate for tobacco control, advocating for clean indoor air in both New York and New Jersey, and chairs the Eastern Division Tobacco Control Strike Force. Mr. Kugler has received numerous ACS awards, including the Saint George’s Medal, the Silver Chalice Award and the Great American Smoke-out Award.
Mr. Kugler is a Partner at Archer & Greiner and former Chair of the firm’s Real Estate Department. He concentrates his practice on complex lending transactions, including health care financing, tax-exempt financing, and commercial and residential real estate acquisitions, sales, exchanges and financings.
Archer & Greiner PC is a full-service regional law firm with more than 200 lawyers and eight offices in Haddonfield, Hackensack, Princeton and Flemington, N.J.; Philadelphia, Pa.; New York, N.Y.; and Wilmington and Georgetown, Del. Class of 67 Completes Great Year!
Our Great Class of 67 has just completed an outstanding year in the period July 1, 2010 to June 30 2011. We held five well-attended mini-reunions, supported a large number of important projects, published our maximum quota of newsletters and Dartmouth Alumni Magazine columns, increased the number of dues payers and check-off contributions, grew the Treasury, began planning for the 45th and 50th Reunions and had a great time doing all of the above and more.
For complete details, check on this link (CAR) and read our complete Class Activity Report.

Rhode Island 67 “Not So Open” Golf and Dinner:
Four foursomes of ’67 golfers challenged the stunning Rhode Island Country Club course September 25, 2010 on a beautifully warm, mercifully windless day. As always, we were blessed with the planning and hosting of club members Rich Paolino and Larry Bowen. Among the competitors were Tom Pyles, Tom Grove (all the way in from Utah), Steve Cheheyl, Doug and Joan Smith, John Manaras, Ron Koback, Bill Eggeling (also a member of the Club), Bill and Carol Adams, Beth Paolino, Jack and Mary Ellen Curley and Paul Killebrew. Larry and Sharleen Bowen hosted a beautifully sunset-lit pre-dinner reception at their home overlooking Narragansett Bay, which was joined by others in the 67 family, including Maureen Cheheyl, Rob and Marilyn Edwards, Judy Ostrow and Dave Larson. Dinner followed at the Clubhouse, and then Sam and Judy Ostrow and Tom and Lily Grove had the special treat of staying overnight at the Bowens, being awakened with Sharleen’s famous blueberry pancakes in the morning, followed by a walk along the beach, the view of the egret in the photo section and enjoying the golf course without the threat of having to play its world-famous finishing holes for another year.

Washington DC 6th Annual 67 Dinner
As has occurred every year at this now well-established event, another ’67 returned to the fold, but this one with a perfect excuse. Tom and Christine Peebles had spent the last six plus years in Sofia, Bulgaria, where Tom served as a U.S. Department of Justice lawyer. Bob Burka hosted in his law firm’s beautiful conference/dining room overlooking the Potomac, and orchestrated the annual “What’s New With You” discussion, as co-host John Isaacs (whose “What’s New” is a new hip), Maria Burka (just off a plane from Seoul, Korea), Tony Newkirk, Bill and Teddy Reynolds, Wayne and Beverly Johnson, Sam Ostrow, Jim Rooks, Wayne Beyer and Chuck and Young Hobbie, caught up on recent personal, Class and Dartmouth developments.
