CLASS OF 1962 HOME PAGE
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to the Class of 1962 web site, where we drink again from the cup of fellowship, fondly remember our transformation from pea-green freshmen to grand old seniors and renew our commitment to the values we imbibed (some more literally than others) within the gleaming, dreaming walls of Dartmouth.
The site is a work-in-progress, so bear with us. To navigate, "mouse over" the three headings above (Classmates, Class News and Archives) to reveal pull-down menus. If the menu item turns green (what else?) when you mouse-over, it means the link is active (such as 'Class Newsletters' recently activated). If not, be patient, we're working on it. Click on blue text for related links. If you have suggestions or comments regarding the site, send us an e-mail by clicking here or on one of the names below.

CLASS OF 1962 WRITING AND RHETORIC PROGRAM
"A carpenter without tools is not a carpenter" (Midrash).
Sounds pretty simple doesn't it? Almost profound. Try being successful without the tools to communicate, no matter what your basic intelligence or potential might be.
That is the predicament in which far too many high school graduates find themselves. And we are talking about a surprising percentage of the Freshmen Class at Dartmouth College. The Class of '62 has made a commitment to address this issue with a new and innovative project called the Class of 1962 Writing and Rhetoric Program intended to support courses in the College's Writing and Rhetoric Program. The Class of 1962 Writing and Rhetoric Program will focus on undergraduates so that when they leave Dartmouth they will have the skills in writing and speech that make them the leaders in their chosen fields.
Endowing this program is going to be our gift to the College on the 50th Anniversary of our graduation. The College, the Faculty, and our Class of '62 Leadership have all endorsed this Project with the highest praise. The funding for this project will take place over the next three years. It costs about $250.000 to support one complete course. We are well on our way to achieving our initial goal of $250,000 with contributions totaling $65,319 from numerous class donors. Over time we would like to raise $1,000,000 to support four courses that would cover the College's needs.
The faculty member who is working with us on Writing and Rhetoric courses, Christiane Donahue, addressed our Class at the Homecoming Dinner in October. Her analysis of the task at hand and the solutions offered gave us an insight into how right we were in choosing this Project as our 50th Reunion Gift.
The different ways a donation can be made to the '62 Writing and Rhetoric Endowment is shown at the following link:Click here.

45th CLASS REUNION -- Return to the Green
June 11-June 14, 2007
Co-chairs Dick Brooks and Bill Pierce assembled a sensational program including a reception and dinner at the Bema with songs by the (politically correct) Dartmouth Aires, a meeting with president James Wright, a Memorial Service for our departed brethren, stimulating lectures, athletic activities (for those of us still ambulatory), an assortment of meals and, last but not least, the comedic genius of our own beloved Dean, Thad Seymour.Click here to see who came. Monitor this space for photos to follow.

Welcome Dr. Jim Yong Kim 17th President of Dartmouth
Jim Yong Kim, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, was elected the 17th President of Dartmouth by the College’s Board of Trustees. Ed Haldeman, Chair of Dartmouth’s Board of Trustees, announced the appointment recently at a meeting of students, faculty and staff.
Dr. Kim, 49, took office on July 1, 2009 and succeeds James Wright, who stepped down in June after 11 years as President of the College.
“Jim Yong Kim embodies the ideals of learning, innovation, and service that lie at the heart of Dartmouth’s mission,” Haldeman said. “As a passionate educator and physician, he has had a profound impact on students, faculty, colleagues and fellow health professionals. And as a leader in the field of global health, Jim has helped to transform efforts to bring health care to the world’s poor. Jim follows in the long tradition of Dartmouth presidents who have made a significant mark both in higher education and on the world stage, and we are confident he is the ideal person to lead the College in today’s rapidly changing environment.”

CLASS TRIPS
CHARLESTON MAY 3-6, 2010
Under Tripmeister Tom Komarek's able direction, the Class met in Charleston, NC for 3 days of fun and fellowship, seeing the sights and enjoying America’s best preserved historic city and the nearby Drayton Hall Plantation. We enjoyed a dinner cruise past Fort Sumter, gloriously bracketed by a double rainbow, and celebrated a gala Birthday Dinner at Hibernian Hall, a site for the 1860 Democratic Convention. Our hotel, the 1853 Mills House, featured the same marble floors paced by Robert E. Lee in the days leading up to the Civil War, but thanks to a recent multi-million dollar renovation it also had all modern amenities. Click on blue text for a list of attendees, some 135 strong, schedule of events, a pdf copy and a PowerPoint version of the book of remembrances presented to Thad Seymour, on-line photos from Paul Weinberg and Alan Rapoport and his second set. A slide show on DVD comprising photos from several attendees will be made available soon. Previews of the DVD have been posted on YouTube for private viewing by the Class. To view, click on each of 4 parts: Part 1 Part 2. Parts 3 and 4 are still in process.
2008 GREEK ODYSSEY
The Class Greek Odyssey in 2008 included a land journey from the Parthenon in Athens north to Delphi and the monasteries of Metora, and a cruise of the Greek islands in the Agean. There will be much to follow, but for the time being, here's the group picture. Click here to see Bill and Fran Baschnagel's exquisite photo album of the trip.
