Thanks to the kindness of John Ryan, my wife, daughter and I were able to take Nathalie’s Aunt Barbara to lunch at the Yale Club in NYC.
Barbara Wendell Kerr has lived on 92nd Street near Lexington for 70 years or more and, despite a few understandable ailments, gets about quite nicely. She is a distinguished lady who worked for Charles Collingwood and Edward R. Murrow at CBS and she still sees Walter Cronkite on a regular basis. She was instrumental in establishing Face the Nationand actually hosted it several times. She also was the one who, despite great opposition, blew the whistle on Whittaker Chambers. Additionally she was Editor of Mademoiselle. I've been trying to get her to write a book.
The Yale Club is quite a hallowed place and we had a very pleasant time. Thanks, John.
Zounds! A candidate for Dartmouth from Pinehurst. Laura Puleo is the daughter of doctors (both are ob-gyn’s) and has 5 other siblings. She has a straight a plus average at a local private school, and is number 1 in her class. She is Miss Moore County and will compete for Miss North Carolina next June. She is an accomplished ballerina, shotput and discus record holder, and loves to read Latin in her spare time. I would hope, with all those credentials and superior SAT’s,that our admissions folks would accept her.
Please don’t forget to sign up for our fabulous Fiftieth June 6-8. Contact Pete Kelsey at pt2kelsey@verizon.net.
(In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a bit short on class news and would appreciate hearing from you.)
