RICHARD SPRAGUE DANFORTH

died on August 7, 2002 at Dartmouth Medical Center.  He came to Dartmouth from Nashua High School in Nashua, New Hampshire.  At Dartmouth, Dick was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and the Dartmouth Christian Union.  He lettered in track.  He served in the Air Force for two years and retired as a major in the Air Force Reserves.  In 1960, Dick received a master’s degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.  He was an urban redevelopment specialist working in Buffalo, New York where he reshaped the downtown and waterfront areas.  In Chelsea, Massachusetts, he helped to develop Admirals Hill.  Dick also authored master plans for Saratoga Springs, New York, Dartmouth College, New England College and Newtown, New York.  In retirement, he worked as a docent at the New Hampshire Historical Society and the Kearsarge Indian Museum.  Dick is survived by his wife, Nicole, his children, Heidi Danforth, Scott Danforth and James Danforth and his step children, Kim McLaughlin and David Gaw.
