ALUMNI MAGAZINE 1954 The 55th reunion chair John Fenn asks '54s to mark their calendars for June 15-17, 2009, Monday to Wednesday, for our next gala reunion. Given the tremendous success of our 50th reunion, the 55th offers classmates another wonderful opportunity to renew old acquaintances and to enjoy the many fun-filled events John and his committee are planning. Expanded kudos from Don Berlin: "The September-October issue of the DAM reports that Rick Hartman and I won the Raymond Rasenberger '49 award for Outstanding Non-Reunion Achievement. They have it wrong. All of you won the award for your great work on the 2007-2008 College Fund. Rick and I congratulate you all for winning this award. Great work." Peter Kenyon, chair of '54 special projects, has heard from the Athletic Department that Sarah Alderman '12, whose recruiting trip to Hanover was sponsored by the class of 1954, was accepted as an early-decision candidate. Field hockey coach Amy Fowler says we can look for Sarah in her midfield position. Class of '54's most senior member is 88-year-old Howard "Roxy" Roxborough. Roxy asked Betty, his wife of 61 years, to bring us up to date on his goings-on. Here's what Betty (Roxy) had to say: "We had a great Mediterranean cruise last summer plus 10 days in Sorrento but at age 88 . . . traveling days are finished. Over the years we had many adventures in exotic places. The Young Viejos, a softball team for over 65s that I founded 12 years ago, is flourishing. A 90-year-old shortstop still plays with enthusiasm. They call me "The Commissioner." Last weekend our family gathered here in Coral Gables from near and far. One son lives in Thailand, another in Anacortes, Wash. and the third in Calgary, Canada. Our four grandchildren were here too (ages 10 to 18). To add to the merriment our Japanese exchange student of 44 years ago was visiting at the same time with his wife, who spoke no English. Life is still sweet. Best wishes from Roxy and Betty" For the past 18 months we have been posting the Class Notes column on the '54 Web site about five to six weeks in advance of its appearance in print. It is hoped that providing news in a timelier manner would satisfy the interests of those many classmates who now check the Web site on a periodic basis. What we don't know -- and would like to find out -- is how many classmates actually read the column online. We'd also like to know what you think of the early online publication as opposed to waiting for the print edition of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
