DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE
January-February 2007

Fifty-fours just keep connecting! Witness the fact that during September and October four class gatherings occurred.

The dedication of the McLaughlin Cluster and Goldstein Hall on September 19 drew 19 classmates, including: Bob Adnopoz, Don Berlin, Lo-Yi Chan, Jay Davis, Pete Geithner, Art Geller, Jerry Goldstein, Lyon Greenberg, Rick Hartman, John Heston, Tom Kelsey, Peter Kenyon, Dick Lewis,

Dave Mandelbaum, Tom Myers, Dick Page, Harry Robinson, Norm Veasey and Shelly Woolf.  Judy McLaughlin writes: “… thank you to the many generous ’54 classmates who participated in the support and plans for the bust of David. It is a tremendous gift of friendship, affection and loyalty…David would have been pleased, honored and most grateful.”

Don Belcher and Ed Scott organized a Northwest mini-reunion and welcomed Bill Cohn, Jay Davis, Bob Dean, Ron Dunton, Dana Low, Hugh Nolin, Fenn Schrader, Bud Siqueland and Lefty Terrill.

The October NY-Area luncheon at the Yale/Dartmouth Club enabled Pete Barker, Don Berlin, Dick Davidoff, John Fenn, Art Geller, Jerry Goldstein, Dave Mandelbaum, Arthur Rauch and me to break bread. Mandy treated the assemblage to a firsthand report of the September 19 dedication and Goldie shared great photos of the buildings (yes, including Goldstein Hall).

And then there was Homecoming, and what a weekend that was! No fewer than 36 classmates and 32 wives and SOs showed up. Greeted by bright sunshine and warmer than usual temperatures, the annual class Executive Committee meeting was held Friday afternoon, followed by a cocktail party at the Hanover Inn and the traditional Dartmouth Night parade and rally in front on Dartmouth Hall. Saturday morning, Dick Page provided classmates with a splendid presentation of the evolution of the beautiful bust of Dave McLaughlin. Capping off a terrific weekend was a wonderful Saturday night dinner at the Hanover Inn, during which George Shaw became the proud recipient of a Class of 1954 Award. John Gillespie’s act is a tough one to follow but John Fenn, mini-reunion chair, proves to be quite up to the task.

Seen over the weekend: Joan and Jim Adams, Jean and Bob Adnopoz,  Barbara and Dick Barker, Peggy and Jerry Barton, Don Berlin, Carol and Rip Coffin, Martha and Jay Davis, Bob Dean, Natalie and John Fenn, Judy and Mort Galper, John Gillespie, Mary and Alec Gray, Bill Grover, Anne and Rick Hartman, Betty and John Heston, Yngvar Hvistendahl, Carol and Ron Jabara, Sonja Rand and Tony Kane, Jill and Peter Kenyon, Judy and Mitch Kramer, Audrey and Dick  Lewis, Anne and Dana Low, Judy McLaughlin, Rosemary and Dave Mandelbaum, Carol and Steve Mullins, Rosemarie and Bill Murane, Debby and Hugh Nolin, Patty and Bob Osmond, Jane and Dick Page, Louise and Dave Ransom, Carol and Harry Robinson, Carol and George Shaw, Kay and Tom Tyler, Shelia and Wayne Weil, Mary Lou and Ed Winnick, Elisabeth and Shelly Woolf, Cynthia Sutherland and Gary Zwart.

How about that? A total of 54 classmates attended one or more of the four  Class of 1954 connecting opportunities in just a two-month period. Now that’s really staying connected!
